Suedtirol is located in Northern Italy. It used to belong to Austria but during the First World War was promised to Italy… I just looked up its history on Wikipedia… quite interesting.
There are some well-known cities in this region – so far we visited
Meran = very charming (we’ll go again tomorrow)
Bozen = not so much
Brixen = quite cute and good shopping
I am so enjoying our hikes and excursions, looking at castles, soaking up the sun (yes, it is quite warm here!), basking in the gorgeous landscapes, looking at vineyards, apple orchards, plum trees and kiwis – these are everywhere.
All those grayish areas you see in the picture are apple orchards – they are covered with nets to keep out the birds.
I so needed that – a vacation, just doing and seeing and trying out new things, a change of scenes… I could stay here for a while – there is so much to do and it is so pretty here…. Just one more day, and we’ll be driving back to Germany – just a three hour drive and we’re back to where my family lives…. sad.
